A complete guide to understanding our craft
Raffia is a natural fiber highly prized for its versatility and strength. It comes from the leaves of the Raphia palm, native to Madagascar. Here is how the magic happens:
To start well, choosing quality fiber is essential. Before crocheting, we unroll and slightly stretch the raffia to soften it, making the work easier without damaging the fiber.
Choosing the right hook is crucial. We generally use a 4 to 6 mm hook depending on thickness, made of metal or wood, for optimal precision.
It all starts with a slip knot. We crochet slightly looser than usual to prevent the raffia from breaking, using stitches like single crochet or double crochet to highlight the texture.
Once the work is finished, threads are woven in meticulously. For care, raffia is simply cleaned with a damp cloth or a gentle hand wash.
"Don't hesitate to try this original technique. It's our passion, and we are proud to share it with the world."
